Days 1 & 2: Date 2007 Lapalala Wilderness Arrive at Johannesburg Int. Airport, where you will be met by an African Insight representative who will hand you your travel documents and assist you in the right direction in order to get to your first night’s accommodation.

Lapalala Wilderness, in the mountains of the Waterberg 3½ hours from Johannesburg, is a privately owned nature reserve 36 000 hectares in extent. 88 kilometers of clear, natural rivers run through bush-covered hills and craggy ravines. The reserve is home to animals such as rhino (both white and black), buffalo, hippo, crocodile, leopard, baboons and many sorts of antelope. There are several different types of accommodation available to visitors, all making the most of the wild and rugged setting. Game drives and guided walks are offered on request. Day 3: Date 2007 Mapungubwe National Park Drive to Mapungubwe National Park, the most recently proclaimed national park in South Africa. The park is representative of the rich biodiversity of the area and great scenic beauty.

Positioned on the international borders of Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. It is envisaged that the park will eventually form part of a Trans-Frontier Conservation Area shared by the three countries.

The rugged landscape is dotted giants of the botanical world –baobab trees with the largest having a trunk circumference of 31m. All the large mammals, including predators, still occur naturally in the park and provides a sanctuary to endangered large mammals, such as the black and white rhinoceros, wild dog, and the continent’s flagship species, the African elephant.

Mapungubwe is described as “an archaeological treasure” and was awarded World Heritage status in 2003 was for the cultural importance. Until its demise at the end of the 13th century AD, Mapungubwe was the most important inland settlement in the sub-continent and extended over an area of about 30 000 sq kilometers on either side of Limpopo and Shashe Rivers, a country about the size of modern day Swaziland. Day 4: Date 2007 A full day at Mapungubwe starting off with an informative guided tour to the archaeological diggings of the ancient settlement. Spend the rest of today exploring the park in search of wildlife, enjoying the amazing scenery and landscape. Finally in the evening there is the option of a night drive with the park ranger. Day 5: Date 2007 Depart Mapungubwe and travel south down the NI to Ndegi Ranch, recently game fenced, 1800 hectare ranch situated 16 kilometers North of Mookgopong (Naboomspruit) in Limpopo Province. It is on the doorstep of the Nylsvlei (a Ramsar site), with the main Reserve a few kilometres upstream. Consequently the birdlife is abundant and very tame. There are also impala, kudu, duiker, blesbok, waterbuck, steenbok, zebra, giraffe, warthog, bushpig, ostrich and other small game on the ranch. The accommodation is in the form of 6 x 2 bedroom self-catering cottages, catering can be arranged on request. Overnight: Ndegi Ranch Meals: Self - catering cottage (meals on request)

Day 6: Date 2007 Return to Johannesburg

Total cost per person sharing: R2 000.00
